A Better Word for Weird

So I had 1 gin & tonic and 1 bailey's on the rocks, and I was eating at the same time: is there any logical reason I should be this tipsy? o_O

We went to the Celtic Knot after senior showcase. Tha's gonna be me in a year, which seems to be simultanetously a very short and very long time. Our last acting class was taday, and Stephan and I did the final Elena/Astrov scene from "Uncle Vanya." Dawn said it got to a very beautiful place by the end (shame we couldn't start the scene with that same feeling :P). She also said that each one of us had grown in some significant way over the last two years. TWO YEARS. Which also seems simultaneously like a short and long tie. Time. Whatevs.

At the Celtic Knot, Laura started snapping and said she felt like singing something, but didn't know what. So I broke out into "Stand By Me", and strangemiss joined in. *Loves on the roomie!Jessie*

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand now I'm watching 'Roger Rabbit'. Good times, good times.

Yay summer vacation.

ETA: I am definitely going to be watching some old Bonkers-on-VHS tomorrow. Silly Disney, bringing every other Disney Afternoon show out on DVD except Bonkers. >:(

Whyyyyyyyohwhy did I stay up until 3 AM last night >_<

Well, I don't regret what I was actually doing until then, because it was good times (reading tarot cards for the roomies). But sleep deprivation is not my friend, and I already know I'm gonna be up at least until midnight tonight.

WAAAAH.

Perhaps today is a day for Starbucks :P

(ETA: I am now reminded of a conversation last night that went along the lines of, "If these are the worst problems we have..." Eheh.)

On the bright side, it's gonna be over 40 degrees farenheight for the first time since last week. Yes!

Man, yesterday was a Day.

First of all, everyone needs to experience Equus. Read it, or see it if you can. If you're in or around Chicago, see it at The Actors Workshop. It is fucking amazing. Ellarans? You especially should see it.

Afterwards, Roomie!Emily and I returned to the apartment to find Roomie!Jessie completely shnockered. So the only logical course of action was to get completely and totally schnockered with her. Four cups of wine + two hours = dancing along to Ok Go, roomie-love cuddling, spontaneous Irish and Scotch accents, protestations of how much we love each other and how awesome everything is, and me falling asleep in my clothes at 4 AM.

Good times. Very very good times.

The re-write of the NaNo novel goes. I realized tonight that I've got enough words to fill 7 book-pages. Now, I'll have to write a lot faster if I want to have a first draft by, say, the end of the year :P but at least I'm writing, and liking what I write.

Other Stuff! Someone at the Psych department at Northwestern has put together a survey they call "Mate Preferences". They're attempting to find out what people from all sexualities find attractive, whether there are any common threads, etc. The way they've set it up is particularly interesting, because they basically ask you to "build" your ideal mate. It makes me think of an AI-ish sort of future where those who can afford it order custom love-bots based on parameters of physicality and emotion that they most desire ("Coin operated boy / Sitting on the shelf / He is just a toy / But I turn him on..."). In such a time, would romantic love become a novelty, even obsolete (I actually imagine it would fluctuate between being taboo and being an "unobtainable" ideal)? Would actual sex be purely for the sake of breeding?

I did have one quibble with how they set up the "money" system, and that's that you HAVE to spend all the dollars you have for that question. I found myself adding on things I didn't feel I needed on the 40-dollar ones. Not everyone wants someone perfect. Though on the flip-side, the 20-dollar questions didn't seem to allow for enough. ^___^;; As usual, I seek the happy medium.

I haven't talked about much else besides fandoms and music lately, have I? ^__^;; Well, that's about to change.

This coming summer's been something of a quandery for me, and earlier today I was getting hit by the "What The Fuck Am I Going to DOOO"-bug. Part of it might be because it's my last summer vacation before senior year and life as a not-student begin looming, but also since I bought a ticket to go to Burning Man with herod_the_nut, which I am very excited about and determined that it work out.

Burning Man goes from August 27 to September 3, and all the summer acting workshops I'd seen so far conflict with that. I mean, I'd be willing to sacrifice a day or two at the festival for the sake of acting, but once you factor in getting back to Chicago and taking the train to Nevada, I'd probably end up missing the festival altogether.

I mentioned this to Roomies Jessie and Emily in passing because I needed to talk to someone about it, and Jessie just pipes up with, "Well, you could do BADA."

BADA as in the British Academy of Dramatic Arts. As in where Jessie went last summer and had a Q&A with Alan-freakin'-Rickman. As in it ends in early August.

So now, at least, I have an option. I would seriously have to rock the audition, but that's not worrying me right now. At least now I know there's something out there that could make this all work.

And how SERIOUSLY ROCKING would it be to be in England on July 21st? ;) It would mean no Race meet-up, but. Mrr. I'm determined to meet you guys in person one way or another; doesn't neccessarily have to be then :)

If anyone else knows about summer acting workshops that end in either early or mid-August, I'd love to have a back-up plan or two. Perhaps I shall ask around the theatre department.

So that's that. On to other things, such as how I was crazy enough to get myself cast in a student film that's shooting outside on the coldest weekend of the season. Yeeaaah, this is that vampire movie, "Curse of the Blood Ruby". And we are shooting all day Sunday. On the lakefill. And my character doesn't get a jacket, since she got captured by the vampire and forcibly taken outside.

Robert, our director, is taking every step to make sure we're as comfortable as possible, urging us to wear extra layers and bring blankets and thick jackets for in between takes, and he's trying to get us a room in Norris for breaks with hot food and drinks. But still. I get cold very easily, so I'm not exactly looking forward to this.

I do have a plan, though, which can be summed up in a couple of points:
A) Go to CVS and get a ton of those hand-and-foot warmer thingies. During filming, I can stash them in my shoes and pockets and bra.
B) Throughout the day, keep picturing Andy Serkis in his Gollum-suit having to jump into that stream of freezing-cold water over and over. If he could do it, so can I.

Oh yeah, and Happy Groundhog Day! :D

Tony Kushner kinda owns my soul as far as contemporary plays go. I lovelovelove his stuff. And Dawn says I'd be good at it (I guess we'll find out next year; that's when we "do" him).

I still have to make sure I know my stuff for Japanese, write up summaries of interviews, write a short response to the Credeaux Canvas reading... But all that's gonna be squeezed in the cracks of free time between class tomorrow.

Thursdays are definitely my days of crazy this quarter.

I spent a lot of time dreaming today. Dunno what else I can say about it but that, so I'll leave it.

My Astronomy teacher is Professor Taam, pronounced "Tom," which does not stop me from giggling internally whenever I think about it.

So. New Years. Was mostly awesome. Chris made an awesome dinner--it was the first time I'd been at 2108 when he'd been cooking, and I'd heard that his meals were epic. Did not disappoint ^__^ Then there was drinkies and watching the movie "Gamers" and counting down and drunken Guitar Hero wherein I managed to kind of rock despite, er... a glass of wine and a coupla Smirnoffs and some champagne and 2 mimosas? I think that's it.

There was also a lot of bonding conversation in the kitchen. Wheee. :)

The reason behind the "mostly" awesome is not something I feel I am authorized to discuss on a semi-public blog. But the awesomeosity outshone it anyway.

2) Begin learning guitar
3) General striving to excellence in acting and other pursuits
4) In complete opposition to what I proposed earlier: as this is my 21st-birthday-year, I resolve to PARTY IT UP. WHOO.
.......within reason, of course. I don't plan on breaking my streak of never getting pukey from the alcohols.

B-Fest tickets were purchased today. WHEEEEEEE. Last B-Fest was a special time for me, in addition to just being a lot of fun hanging with friends and watching a lot of bad movies. So happies are now. This time I will NOT sleep through the blaxploitation flick. I've learned my lesson.

Also, I feel it is time for some superfluousness. See, I ran out to Borders and bought the Happy Feet soundtrack last night after listening to the previews on iTunes. And the fact that it is actually Brittany Murphy singing on those coupla tracks made me swoooon. Cause I have a total girl-crush on her, ohyes. XD And that then got me thinking about the various girl-crushes, few though they may be, that I harbor. So now you get a semi-pic-spam.

I have been getting some fantastic pressies from friends in the past week! rocknlobster sent me 'The Secret of NIMH' on DVD (I forgot I already had it on VHS, but these days DVD is better). From rosesfade I got the book 'The Radical Middle', plus two mini-presents I have not yet opened.

By the way gals, I haven't opened your cards yet, either. Savin' 'em for tomorrow. ^__^

And lanthiriel got me a red-checkered fedora which I've worn for the last three days. I got complimented on it twice today. That gal knows what I like.

I had quite a Broadwayish weekend. On Friday I went to see "Company" with my cousin Alice & her family, then on Saturday went to see "Spelling Bee" with Grandma. Going to that square where the Gershwin Theatre is situated always makes me think of the time MegBit and I met Dez in the city. :)

So, huzzah. And in case I don't post tomorrow, a Merry Christmas to all.

(On a slightly disconcerting note, my laptop seems to have taken to turning itself off randomly. :\ I hope it's just because it's at low power, but I've got it plugged in now and it's still doing it. Thus my finishing this entry on the home comp.)

The last wave of tests for this quarter begin tomorrow. Yay for getting them over with, but oog for having to do them in the first place. :P

Thanksgiving was marvelous. I brought herod_the_nut home with me to New York and we had a fantastically touristy weekend. We saw the Thanksgiving Day parade (okay, so that one I do every year), the 5th Avenue Christmas windows, Jacques Brel, Spamalot, and I took him on a tour of Nyack. We also saw the Tenacious D movie. Bizarre-ness abounds.

I went to see Andrew Lippa tonight. He wrote the Off-Broadway The Wild Party and the re-arrangements for the revival of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, as well as the new show Asphalt Beach, which is getting produced here. He was absolutely hilarious and a joy to listen to. Some especially good advice was given when he was talking about the first time he auditioned Idina Menzel: the gist of which was, "Don't be afraid to go crazy and do your own thing."

(*I lied. Suffice it to say that the head of the theatre department and I seem to be developing a repoire. I don't know how special of a thing this really is, since he's kind of everyone's friend, but it feels special to me. It's nice to hear people say they believe in you.
Okay, that doesn't do away with ALL the crypticness, but with a good part of it anyway. I'm too hyper to be deep right now.)

Yup, I did the human-version-of-Bunnie-Rabbot thing. ^__^ One person recognized me, but some people at the party couldn't even get the basic concept. One girl didn't know what a "cyborg" was when I told her. o_O Um.
