All around the world there are people who live lives of solitude, shutting themselves up in their rooms for months upon years, working from home or living off their parents. In Japan, these people are known as "hikikomori."

Of course it's not as if there's a nation-wide conspiracy to get young Japanese men so hooked on anime, video games and pornography that they lock themselves up, avoid social contact and are kept out of the work force.

Of course not.

Don't be silly.

Welcome to the NHK.

Welcome to the NHK is "new" anime because it's new to me and it's only now coming to America. Naturally it's already a huge hit in Japan and more hardcore anime fans than I have probably already watched the whole thing :P But to anyone who hasn't heard of it, consider this my recommendation! I started watching it on Tuesday and I'm already up to Episode 15.

And now a poll!

Aside from being a seasonal poll (Halloween soon hooray! And costume party tomorrow night!), this comes out of Lewis Black's routine about candy corn and how much he thinks it "tastes like shit." When I heard that I made a sadface cause I've always liked candy corn. So I'd like to know what y'all think.

[Poll #1078068]

And as long as we're talking about how things taste, I hearby give you all a warning: NEVER EAT A PERSIMMON. I bought a couple from Whole Foods just to try because I'd heard they were a sour fruit and I like sour things. But they're not sour. They're just nasty, especially the texture. It's like chalk. BLECH.

S'all for now. Off to free DDR (and the Toreador clan meeting)!

I looooooove みやけ空, my DCP character for this year. She is so utterly Japanese. And the Sheriff. I haven't been Sheriff since Freshman year! I like to think I'll be good at it.

One of the best parts of tonight was when Longinus (John's character, the Prince) gave me a shiny, shiny sword and I said "どもうありがとうございました、ロンギャイナス様," which means (in the paraphrased words of Meg) "Thank you very, very much, I kiss your feet, Longinus Your Majesty." At least, that's the best part I can talk about here... Anything else might lead to metagaming, which is The Bad. :P

But I can say with certainty that this was the best first game of the year I've had in four years of playing.

Also, because it is necessary:

This post is mainly for [livejournal.com profile] rosesfade, who asked for it, though I figured as long as I was gonna be pimping I might as well do it to the whole flist.

I would sum up [livejournal.com profile] fiery_inception as a post-war HP game for people with lives. Play can be slow, but not for a lack of characters or inspiration or even desire to play. It's only that the players themselves have lots of things going on that aren't the game.

This is a downside if you're looking for somewhere you can sign on any time of day and find someone to play with. It's an upside if you yourself don't have 24/7 to play, and in my opinion it creates a more realistic time-speed in the game. Things often don't get decided or done in real life as quickly as they sometimes do in RPs. This is one game I would call genuinely "real-time."

Moving on. This game has been going on for about a year, so there are a LOT of characters from many different sides of the fence. Most of the main plot at the moment seems to be centered around a pack of werewolves, led by Remus, who are living with Snape at Spinner's End (Snape and Remus are both played by mods and are incredibly fantastico). However, everyone is open to plotting and new suggestions. I, for instance, have my own plot that's about to get going *eyebrow waggle*

There's a very mature air about the whole thing. It takes place in 2001, so the characters we know from Trio-Era have "grown up" a little. Even my own small-name character, Stephen Stebbins, has gone through some pretty big changes since the days of Race to the Finish. To me it feels like a sequel, and I'm even considering bringing back my Lavendar or my Avery.

If you wish to see more, check out [livejournal.com profile] fiery_inception!!!!!

Stephen Stebbins lives again over at [livejournal.com profile] fiery_inception!!!
(And he's already pissing off Snape. LOLZ. I love it.)

(former Racers, feel very free to check it out ~__^)

Yeah, so I'm 104 pages into The Vampire Lestat. XD
I picked it up in the library yesterday, then decided I ought to borrow it once I'd realized I'd just been sitting on the floor reading up to page 20.

Of course, because this is inevitable with anything vampire-related, I'm trying to figure out what Clan he is. He clearly has lots and lots of Auspex. Maybe a little bit of Potence.

Wait, what am I saying? He's a theatre dude, and pretty. He's totally a Toreador.

I'm not even a member of [livejournal.com profile] fiery_inception yet, and already I'm getting plot bunnies.

Outrageous plot bunnies. Paradigm-shifting plot bunnies.

And if for some reason I can't play it out, I'll just have to write it as a fic that no one will read cause no one knows who the hell Stephen Stebbins is. :P

ALSO: OotP International Trailer = Totally Hot. F&G are so much pwnage.

From [livejournal.com profile] lassarina:

1. Comment in this post with a pairing, a character, or a threesome.
2. I shall write you back a paragraph explaining what I think about it (good, bad, indifferent) and why.
3. Let's discuss / argue / CAPSLOCK at each other about it! I only ask that you don't get insulted, angry, mean, or stupid.

Fandoms to choose from: Angel Sanctuary*, Battlestar Galactica, BONE, Brothers Grimm, Carnivàle, Earthbound, Escaflowne, Firefly, Harry Potter, Hunchback of Notre Dame/Notre Dame de Paris, Lord of the Rings, LOST, Pirates of the Carribean.

*I've only read up to volume 15 on AS.

Also, I am slowly putting together an app for [livejournal.com profile] fiery_inception.
I'd say Somebody Stop Me, but I still kind of want to. :\

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck, I am exhausted. Got up this morning at 9, went and flew on a plane back to Evanston, met John & went walkin' around, watched a movie-- then John left, I practiced a bit for Musical Theatre, sat down at the comp and suddenly I feel like I've been hit by a train. Owwwww.

(speaking of people getting hit by large moving vehicles, DAY WATCH TRAILER ZOMG. looks a lot more spectacular than its predecessor, and I mean 'spectacular' in its literal definition)

I should really be unpacking.

Also, GAH. I may have the costume concept for my DCP char next year. Although it's almost exactly like Mary's was, except black. XD What can I say, I dig the long-jacket-and-vest look. And next year's character must needs look kickass and beautiful, cause she is. Will be. Whatevs.

Sooooooo tired.... must stay up for Battlestar..... mussszzZZzZZzZz.........

(EDIT) *wakes up* Huhwhat?

I hath joined [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse! Which I hadn't even heard of until [livejournal.com profile] scytheandroses joined up, but it's a HUGE multi-fandom rp/fanfic comm. Definitely worth a look.

My chararacters are Jacob Grimm (Gilliam's version, not the historical one) and Dilandau Albatou (of Escaflowne--series, not movie). Dilandau hasn't made any friends yet (aww, no one likes the little pyro *pets*), but Jake is already rockin' it. With the Devil. XD SO MUCH SQUEE.

Anyway, if you wish to witness their ramblings, here be their journals:

Jacob - [livejournal.com profile] livingthestory
Dilandau - [livejournal.com profile] alseidesadonis

Oh yeah, and Dilandau's journal? SPOILERS. In case you care.
Jake.... doesn't really have much to be spoiled for (when compared to Dil-sama, anyway).

OH! And people for whom I have yet to write drabbles (aka Meglet and Nik/Sayrah). You have not been forgotten! They shall be written next week, I vow. Would be written this weekend, but it's our homestay weekend, so I'll hafta be hangin' with my Japanese family.

Dinner now. Tootles!

Before the Dawn. HP/RTTF fic. Please read! Especially if you are a former Racer. Cause you'd actually understand it. XD

And Ophelia, if you're out there, PLEASE get in touch with me somehow. Writing this made me realize how I haven't communicated with you in months. E-mail, LJ comment or IM. No cell phone, cause mine is back in the states. :P

You are Brigitte Bardot

Naurally sensual and beautiful
You're an exotic beauty who turns heads everywhere
You've got a look that's one of a kind

As Fleur, you are popular, pretty and on the whole friendly, but you sometimes relish on your popularity too much. You are also talented with skills in sporting areas.

I spose that's cool. I've been feeling rather Gryffy lately.

As for the upcoming meme, it surprises me how none of my friends who did it checked off the "I have tried marijuana" box. Maybe cause so many of my high school friends did it, but I just assumed it was something you were required to do, at some point. I mean, even I've done it.

(Click here to post your own answers for this meme.)

I miss somebody right now.  (So very much.) I don't watch much TV these days. I own lots of books.
× I wear glasses or contact lenses.  (Even though both my parents do.) I love to play video games. I've tried marijuana.
I've watched porn movies. × I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship. I believe honesty is usually the best policy.
I curse sometimes. I have changed a lot mentally over the last year.  (I think I have, anyway... it'd be a shame if no change, or at least discovery, occurred.) × I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me.
it goes on... )

Dismania! Dismania! Dismania! Dismania! Dismania! Dismania! Dismania! Dismania! Dismania!

Silly me, thinking I was done with online RPs. :P Y'know, I dig this whole pan-fandom concept that's been cropping up all about--I like the idea of characters from different series/movies interacting. Plus, this one is all DISNEY! It's one of those games where play is slow, but the players are all fantabulous. Please check it out. Especially if you're interested in playing a more unsavoury character who could stir up some trouble for our heroes.

I'm playing Mushu *points to icon*.

Carry on.
a_leprechaun: (Default)
Also, I love the Exalted Name Generator.

'Last Breaking Sword'... Don't know if I'd ever play a Dawn caste, but if I do... SO their name.

Now I'm off.

Two more performances of "Time of Your Life" left, and then I am free! Free I say!

Went to Games Plus with the DCP crowd today. Got a sparkly new dice bag & summore dice. And the card game Fluxx, which shall definitely be making an appearence on Dillo Day.

And now, quizzes!

Today, with its raining drearyness, was probably meant to be a stay-in-bed-til-noon day. And yet, I got up at 10 and went grocery shopping. Blurgh.

However, I had a mahvelous birthday, and I have pictures to prove it.

Bowling! And Flattop )

...and then we went to Blockbuster with the intention of buying one movie and got a total of 13 XD And then back to the apartment for carrot cake and The 40-Year Old Virgin. Twehee.

Also, at game last night, I learned the true feeling of having d00m come descending over me when I heard my enemies flag down an ST and say, "We need to summon someone."

I DID IT! 5-minute horse stance. Not the first time I've ever done it, but the first time in a long time. Now the trick is to get it to be as easy as 1-minute :)
"We Wish" by Ayumi Hamasaki (the song I use to time myself, since it's just over 5 minutes) says it's been played 16 times on my iTunes. Woo. I suppose another part of the "trick" would be to do the 5 minutes without the song. Having it is kind of a comfort-zone thing.

This weekend has been spectacularly fantastico. John's birthday in Chicago meant a lot of meandering around the Magnificant Mile, randomly stumbling upon a street performer (who juggled a knife under his leg while atop of 6-foot unicycle*), and going to see Second City's mainstage, a show called "Iraqtile Dysfunction". Much of the the hilarious.
Saturday brought Alice's seder at UChicago. Roomie!Emily was kind enough to drive us and save us the two-hour el-and-bus ride it would have taken to get there. We made all the non-Jews do the "children's" parts, like asking the Four Questions and hiding the afikomen. My favorite part of seder is still the part where we do math (Hand of God = 250 PLAGUES BITCHES. Or not). Then we rushed back for the last hour and a half of DCP. Though I wasn't there long, I still had an incredibly awesome combat with the guy who's shaped up to be my enemy. There was a point at which we were 95% sure we'd both be kicking the bucket by the end of game, but neither of us ended up dead.

Next game oughta be interesting.

Idea of the Weekend:
"Okay. Siamese twins... And one of them is an Exalt."

Aaaaand some photos )

*You can upload videos onto Photobucket now? JOY.
I don't know why it's still sideways. I was able to rotate it in Quicktime and save it that way, but when I uploaded it, it went horizontal again. Meh.

Easter Game

a_leprechaun: (can't take this guy (wash))
So last night I got to play a Hawaiian bartender, Zoe from 'Firefly', V (who Josh thought was the Phantom of the Opera, because I did not have appropriate maskage), and Agent Brown. Oh, and also Bill S Preston to Wizera's Theodore Logan. I need to see that movie.

V was the awesome, cause I threw a lot of knives and helped kill an agent. Bill was the awesome cause I got to say "dude" a lot.

I am terrible at running combat, but that's okay since I didn't have to do it too much.

I doubt I will ST again, unless I'm still hanging around DCP in 4 years. I'll probably have a better grasp on the rules by then.

What type of Fae are you?

I have stats. It took me 4 hours, but I have stats. Now I just need a detailed backstory. Woof.

I do rather like my character, though. Nerdy little antisocial Twilight Caste. Teehee.

Overheard yesterday, while watching 'The Fifth Element':
SAM: I just wonder what casting was like for this movie... They're like, "Okay, we need someone who can be the perfect woman, but it has to be someone we can afford... And we need to be able to show her titties."
ROB: "She also has to be willing to wear... that."
ME: "Let's go to Russia!"
