Since I'm leaving for Oxford tomorrow, Everything's Eventual will have to go back to the library, so I skipped ahead and read the story of 1408. At 2 AM. And it is way, way scarier than the movie. And I read it at 2 AM.

"A life rule if you're going to read those things: during the day, near a bunny." -Dad

That may be the best advice I've gotten so far this year.

And yes, I leave for Oxford, and BADA, tomorrow. There's no internet access in the dorms. :/ There are interweb cafes around town, but time will be limited. And so I say to you, as usual: see ya on the flip-side!

Follow-up Questions: Spoilers for various things within )

Jack Sparrow's (mostly) loyal first mate, you spend most of your time fishing your captain out of trouble-- or fishing yourself out of whatever trouble your captain's gotten you into this time. The proverbial old salt, you've seen and heard just about everything there is during your time at sea, and you always have a story or two up your sleeve, especially when the films require some helpful expository dialogue.

FINALLY saw 'At World's End'. And there was so much awesome I don't even know where to start.

Hmmmmm... )

EDIT: So I was inspired to go back and finish the Jack/Tia Dalma fic. Go forth and read the pseudo-smut!

Custom-locked for girl talk, with a few trusted exceptions. ;)
Un-locked. Cause. Stuff. I was being silly. :P

So hey [livejournal.com profile] rocknlobster, it didn't take me as long to finish as I thought it would. XD

Meme: The Top 10 Fictional Characters I'd Nail.

Personally, I don't like the word "nail". But I guess by its use it's suggesting pure sex without emotional attachment or really, anything beyond skin-depp (skin-deep. wow. freudian slip, anyone?) attraction. Which, really, is tough for me to fathom. Usually my attraction to someone has quite a bit to do with the personality or character traits of said person. But I did my best.

You may notice Nick Stahl is nowhere on the list. Believe me, I considered including him, but given that my very first reaction to him was “WOW you are weird-lookin’”, I don’t think we could say it’s a shallow attraction by any means. It’s very much a respect thing, and if anything, respect should matter very little in this meme.

ALSO. There are two characters from Battlestar Galactica on here, and my little paragraphs about ‘em include spoilers for seasons 2.5 & 3. If you care about that kinda thing.

Enough talk.

The Top 10 Fictional Characters I'd... well, y'know. *giggles* )

Two people said I smelled nice today. I guess the "Captain Jack" perfume oil I bought at Ren Faire last year is a winner.

Oh, Captain Jack. Is there anything you can't do? ;)
a_leprechaun: (bros grimm beside the fire)

Anyone in posession of the 'Dead Man's Chest' DVD... If you haven't watched the "Mastering the Blade" segments on Disc 2... Do. Especially the Jack Davenport one. It makes me glee. Glee!
And I find amazing the amount of stuff they managed to do sans computers for this movie. Someday I wanna be a part of a film where they actually break a ship in half. Like totally.

A Feast For Crows, George R.R. Martin

Didn't make it to 50. But between Japan and NaNo, I think I did pretty well.

Thoughts on the book, cut for spoilers )

Finally, fic rec! I found out about Yuletide too late to take part, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy its fruits. And so I give you The Way the Sun Rises, based on movie-verse Nochnoi Dozor/Night Watch. Be warned that it turns kinda randomly to slash, but all the same. The mood is perfect. It makes me wanna go be all introspective and angsty and apathetic. In a good way.

ALSO! Grown Men Do Things Together. Coupling-fic! From the 2005 Yuletide, but who cares! GO!

[livejournal.com profile] savvyrate!

I realize I haven't been writing much about actual life lately. This is because most of what's been going on has either been Same Old Stuff(tm) or Not Very Fun(tm). Classes are going on. Acting class progresses with the Greeks. I didn't get in any shows, and I have a cold.

EDIT: Well, I definitely improved on my mood today by totally dressing up like an anime character. :D Japan-bought dress over slim jeans and funky shoes, and ze punk goggles o'doom.
Also, I finally figured out what to sing on Saturday for musical auditions. I'm taking a chance here, but what the hell... it's not like the songs I've used for the past 2 years have been getting me anything.

Holy shit, I am exhausted. But hooray for navigating the Tokyo trains all on my lonesome.

26)) The Pirate Hunter, Richard Zacks
^ RECOMMENDED. This book is not a work of fiction, but a true story reassembled from historical documents. It's astonishing the stuff Zacks was able to track down.

Everything with me lately is pirates. Was a fan of PoTC ever since the first movie, but since Dead Man's Chest, everything has been pirates. Just finished the Zacks book, starting on The Pirates! In an Adventure with Ahab (which is already a lot better than Adventure with Scientists). Also I'm starting to get back into One Piece, which is the first anime/manga I've been seriously engaged in since.... Trigun, I s'pose.

One Piece has, for me, that "new fandom" smell. You know, when you're just starting it and working out the characters and trying to stake your claim for who's gonna end up your favorite (I'm not the only one that does that, right?). I liked Sanji right from the first, cause...well, he's just cool personified, ain't he? XD But I'm starting to think I myself am a lot more like Luffy, at least in that "why yes, I am on crack" way. Eheh.

And when if I ever get my hands on some One Piece DVDs, this song will be made into a video so fast. Possibly with footage of PoTC as well.

EDIT: It had to be done.

a_leprechaun: (pirate what?)
Making this as a separete post because I didn't want to put it in with all the spoilers.

So yesterday while futzing around the internets, I suddenly remembered this very cool Numerology website, where you enter a name and it tells you about the nature of the person. I've found it to be accurate, or at the very least interesting, a number of times. So on a whim I went and put in "Captain Jack Sparrow".

Check out the results. )
a_leprechaun: (banjo pirate)
Now, see, with Pirates 2, one might expect it to be like its predecessor: a fun little fling in movie form, that swoops you off for a while and has you feeling exhillerated and giddy at the end. Much like an amusement park ride, actually.

But not so. This movie bitch-slaps you, throws you down, shags you mercilessly, and leaves you exhausted and gasping for air.

Or maybe that was just me.

I will say this from a technical standpoint: IMO, the one thing a sequel should do to be successful--if it's not following some pre-concieved plot, like a novel--is have some good character development; go deeper into the characters' lives and minds so that we don't feel like we're seeing the Same Old Stuff All Over Again (tm).

Does Dead Man's Chest do this? HELL YES IT DOES.

At the movie, me, [livejournal.com profile] lanthiriel and [livejournal.com profile] starryelle were by far the most fandomy people there, which kind of made me sad. But we were all three of us thoroughly piratey in our garb, and while waiting on line, we sang "99 Bottles of Rum On the Wall", in three-part harmony. We got applause for it XD And then in the theatre we sang "Yo ho, etc". No one else in the theatre sang. That was the sad part. :( Also that there was no one dressed as Captain Jack except a woman who'd brought her kids, and we couldn't exactly go up and slap her as we'd been planning.

But yeah. Then the movie started.

Here there be Spoilers. I mean it. )

And after all that, I just felt like I needed to collapse. Or run around screaming. One of those.

And I want to be Jack Sparrow. Whatever that means, because I don't even know what it means when I say I want to be Jack Sparrow, but I do. Sobad.

a_leprechaun: (pirate what?)
So in the pondering over dressing up for tomorrow's midnight showing of Pirates II, I decide to just take the plunge and go for Captain Jack, because when's the next time I'm gonna get a chance to wear this costume...

...and I can't find the sash. In fact, I think I remember it getting thrown out.

The other option is to go as Generic Pirate Person, possibly Pirate Wench With a Flooshy Skirt, which would be just as fun. It's just frustrating, when I'd already decided it was worth being seen crossplaying in public, for the costume to go and be incomplete on me.

I say again, Arrg.

Stolen from everywhere.

Name a fandom you know I know and I'll tell you:
1. The character I first fell in love with
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer
6. The character I would shag anytime
7. The character I'd want to be like
8. The character I'd slap
9. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

Kind of a rip-off of a meme that Megan (otherwise known as "the-girl-who-is-in-Europe-right-now, lucky-her :-p) did:
I typed my first name into a fanfiction.net summary search for three of the biggest Mary-Sue fandoms on the market: Harry Potter, LoTR, and PoTC.

In Harry Potter, I...
...am a "very pretty girl" from the year 1929.
...get bound o_O While Hufflepuffs sing Bohemian Rhapsody, apparently.
...am Harry's daughter.
...am somehow related to Lupin.
...am Lupin's girlfriend (not in the same fic, thankfully)
...the friend of "Christina".
...am a kid in an orphanage.
...am Oliver Wood's girlfriend.
...am a Weasley.
...am a "shy Ravenclaw" who "may just be the trick to make Harry forget Cho and fight Voldemort".
may just be the trick to make Harry forget Cho and fight Voldemort".
...am Snape's neice.
...am Harry's daughter. Again.
...am someone who has "tension" with Draco Malfoy.

THE WINNER: Harry Potter and the Chosen One by Amber PotterHannie Grange
Summary: Harry, Ron, and Hermione are enetering their 6th year. To their surprise there surprise they meet two exchange students from America. Emily Smith and Fiona Hermsdale. Emily is the Chosen One aka The Slayer. Will Harry fall in love with Emily?Chp15 up soon.

Well, there's very little I can say about the past seven weeks that won't result in rambling nostalgia, so I'm gonna leave off that for the moment. I do think I CAN say this, though- all you up-n-coming High School Juniors interested in theatre, it would definetely behoove you to apply to the National High School Institute this coming Spring. I highly, highly recommend it. Highly. The level of recommendation here is off the charts. If you ever WANT me to talk about it, I will. But right now I'd rather dwell on more recent times, say, the last three hours.

Pirates of the Carribean. I don't think I need to bother talking about how good it was; I'm probably the last person in a ten-mile radius to have seen it. But that's only because I've spent the last seven weeks in a life-changing experience >:-p so lay off, right? So go on and guess who my favorite character was. Go on, guess. Nope, it wasn't Will Turner- those of you who know me ought to know by now that Mr. Bloom's a little too conventional for my personal physical tastes. My pirate of choice was none other than ol' bead-dreds: Captain Jack Sparrow. The confidence, the style, that kooky wide-eyed swagger- rowr.

So, being the instantaneous fangirl I have become, I of course came home and straightaway took some quizzes. Ah, the joy of not cheating and still getting the answer you want. Though, if I wasn't cheating, how could I REALLY be him? ::ponders::

That's a tricky one )
