Since I'm leaving for Oxford tomorrow, Everything's Eventual will have to go back to the library, so I skipped ahead and read the story of 1408. At 2 AM. And it is way, way scarier than the movie. And I read it at 2 AM.

"A life rule if you're going to read those things: during the day, near a bunny." -Dad

That may be the best advice I've gotten so far this year.

And yes, I leave for Oxford, and BADA, tomorrow. There's no internet access in the dorms. :/ There are interweb cafes around town, but time will be limited. And so I say to you, as usual: see ya on the flip-side!

Follow-up Questions: Spoilers for various things within )

Jack Sparrow's (mostly) loyal first mate, you spend most of your time fishing your captain out of trouble-- or fishing yourself out of whatever trouble your captain's gotten you into this time. The proverbial old salt, you've seen and heard just about everything there is during your time at sea, and you always have a story or two up your sleeve, especially when the films require some helpful expository dialogue.

[livejournal.com profile] lassarina and [livejournal.com profile] bangles/[livejournal.com profile] rocknlobster: Your drabbles are up at my writing journal.

Between this and [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse and an original idea that just jumped into my head the other day, I'm getting a lot of writing done. We likes this. We likes this very much, precious.

Thought of the mo: Even though I have a clear image of what I want to be, it's much harder to discern what I am, now, in this moment in time.

Of course, ever since that time somewhere around 14 years old when I decided what it was I wanted, I've spent every day feeling like I'm coming closer. It's just much harder to describe me in the now.

Who is Emily right now? Is it any different than what she wants to be? Or maybe she's too close to the situation to tell... :/

EDIT: Just got ThinkExist's Quote of the Day in my Inbox.

I hath joined [livejournal.com profile] theatrical_muse! Which I hadn't even heard of until [livejournal.com profile] scytheandroses joined up, but it's a HUGE multi-fandom rp/fanfic comm. Definitely worth a look.

My chararacters are Jacob Grimm (Gilliam's version, not the historical one) and Dilandau Albatou (of Escaflowne--series, not movie). Dilandau hasn't made any friends yet (aww, no one likes the little pyro *pets*), but Jake is already rockin' it. With the Devil. XD SO MUCH SQUEE.

Anyway, if you wish to witness their ramblings, here be their journals:

Jacob - [livejournal.com profile] livingthestory
Dilandau - [livejournal.com profile] alseidesadonis

Oh yeah, and Dilandau's journal? SPOILERS. In case you care.
Jake.... doesn't really have much to be spoiled for (when compared to Dil-sama, anyway).

OH! And people for whom I have yet to write drabbles (aka Meglet and Nik/Sayrah). You have not been forgotten! They shall be written next week, I vow. Would be written this weekend, but it's our homestay weekend, so I'll hafta be hangin' with my Japanese family.

Dinner now. Tootles!

Stolen from everywhere.

Name a fandom you know I know and I'll tell you:
1. The character I first fell in love with
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer
6. The character I would shag anytime
7. The character I'd want to be like
8. The character I'd slap
9. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

It's been a long time since I've found a fandom that so inspired me to write tiny little character studies, flashes of scenes, the in-between moments never discovered, the befores, the afters, the durings and the then-what-happeneds. It takes me back to my early days before I even knew fanfic was called fanfic, and every little scene I wrote felt fraught with intimacy, a desire to closely understand the characters one saw up on the screen (or page--but usually, with me, it's the screen).

This is a long and poetic way of saying that I really enjoy writing Grimmfic. So everyone go read it. Unless you don't feel like it.

Saw "The New World" yesterday. It... was different. Certainly different from what I expected, probably different from most things I've seen. I found it dull, but I can respect what it was trying to do. About 75% of it is just introspection from the characters, and the pacing is like molasses. Maybe if I'd been ready for that, I wouldn't have been bored out of my skull.

Well, if nothing else, it was pretty, and there were the rare moments of emotional intensity that, for whatever reason, I was able to tap into.

NEW YEAR'S UPDATE: Current plan is--Ice skating at Bear Mountain sometime in afternoon, then dinner, then house partay in Nyack. Specifics to follow as they occur. If you want in on the action, drop a comment or ping me at EM Whisker.

2005 Summary )

Christmas was... FANTASTICO. I walked away with comfy pajamas, a Coach Z shirt, Brothers Grimm on DVD, RahXephon Volume 2, The Pyrates!, The Grey Fairy Book, The Orange Fairy Book, and a new iPod to be dubbed Charles the Second. Yes, my last iPod was named Charlie, but Charles II was also a pretty damn good king by most accounts.

And then in the same day we had Hanukkah, surprise surprise. Got a yoga mat. Now I have no excuse not to work out in my apartment. w00t. And GIFTCARDS LIKEWOAH. So excited about those XD

Video-playing iPod + $25 iTunes giftcard = I am SO buying the second season of Lost to catch up.
Don't worry [livejournal.com profile] herod_the_nut, I won't leave you in the dust. ;)

and while we're doing equations...
Brothers Grimm + Grey Fairy Book + right before sleep = dfkalsjdgjbfdgadsgh.
I'd write out the details of the dream, but I haven't had breakfast yet.

ETA: Final note.

Because [livejournal.com profile] bangles suggested it, the Untitled Grimmfic commentary.

I'm stealing [livejournal.com profile] roguebelle's style of commentary, which she stole from somebody else, because I like it. Comments are in bold, interspersed among the paragraphs.

For those of you who don't know what's going on, I encourage you to check out the meme. If you know my ficcage and want one commented on, go ahead and request it. This commentary thing is fun!

Constantine--a friend of mine from high school who joined the Marines--friended me on Facebook today.
My first thought was, "Thank God he's alive."
I never actually knew whether he was sent to Iraq or wherever, but I wouldn't doubt it if he had.

In far more frivolous news: I finally caved in and bought the extra icons. I'm up to 28 at this point, and some of them are actually (gasp) made by people who are not me. I think I'm mostly going to stick with my own work, though...

::points to current mood:: No small thanks to the making of the current icon whilst listening to "Jake's Pledge" from the Bros Grimm soundtrack.

I sit beside the fire and think
of how the world will be
when winter comes without a spring
that I shall ever see.

For still there are so many things
that I have never seen:
in every wood in every spring
there is a different green.

I sit beside the fire and think
of people long ago,
and people who will see a world
that I shall never know.

"I would dictate that everyone must study at least one year of kung fu, in order to gain more respect for themselves and others. Plus, then we'd all know kung fu."

Watched "House" for the first time with the Roommate Otherwise Known as Jessie. Good show, although the main character's cynicism makes me want to roll my eyes all the way to Texas.
On the other hand, he may end up being one of those characters I love despite myself. He certainly is funny enough.

In other news, I posted the possible beginning of a new fanfic on [livejournal.com profile] p0t_0_g0ld. It's the first piece of fanfiction in a long time that I've actually really cared about it being good. So I'd appreciate it if all y'all on my flist who saw Brothers Grimm (and liked it) would go give a read, and possibly a comment.

Da Fic.

Good gravy, but my mood is just... WEIRD tonight. The only way I can describe it is, I'm bored, but anything--anything I can think of to do seems entirely unsatisfactory. It's just one of Those Moods.

For the moment, I'm blaming it on The Brothers Grimm soundtrack. You know music is effective when you're listening to it in broad daylight, in a lit room, with someone else present, and you still get freaked out (or sucked in, engaged, whatever. but "freaked out" here, because that music is fucking scary. especially "The Forest Comes to Life"... *shudder*).

Well hey, cause I'm in a Random Mood, you guys get to hear it.

The Forest Comes to Life // 'The Brothers Grimm'

Only reason I got the darn CD was to curb my obsession with the film, since there's no novelization and I sure don't know when I'm gonna get to see it again. And it is pretty good music.

I used to think something had to be wrong with me, but I'll settle for just being slightly insane.

After all, we're all mad here.

P.S. Ok, I put my iTunes on shuffle and it went to that song. WHY does the Universe (or at least iTunes) want me scared out of my wits?

Saw "The Aristocrats" tonight. The parents weren't too fond of it, but I thought it was hilarious. Guess that shows you something about my sense of humor.

I got accepted to The Waste Land! Not only that, but I got a bonus. I apped as George Weasley (and was actually wondering, what with the one-character-per-player rule, how he was going to get along without his other half) and was offered both twins!! Ooh, this is going to be muchfun.

Back to movies, though. Two nights ago, "The Brothers Grimm". 'Terry Gilliam' and 'genius' are two phrases that should be often heard in the same sentence.

And because when a movie is that badass I have to do some kind of fanwork... I made icons.

you have to take the journey )

And just for good measure... My George app, because I am proud of it )
